Cologne 🇩🇪 60kms🚴‍♀️

After a lie in, I rebuilt my bike and followed a route given to me by a local volunteer. It's always a relief to rebuild my bike after a flight and find no damage, and just need to build & hop on and ride 😊

Georg sent me a favourite airport loop that travelled through suburbs, forests, bike paths, airport views and finished along the Rhine. The road section beside the airport was popular with cyclists today 😊

I arrived home, quickly changed, made a sandwich and was back out the door to the tram to go to the Cathedral for a city tour. As volunteers we can take advantage of a range of free activities just for us and this was the first that I have signed up for. The guide was very knowledgeable and made the city come alive with tales of the history. Only 10% of Cologne remained following WWII.

After the tour, a few of us walked to the free ferry taking fans to a UEFA2024 EURO fanzone festival site along the Rhine. The site we attended has a 12,500 capacity and was offering free concerts before the main game at 9pm. I had a yummy Currywurst and chips with the local Cologne Kolsch beer for dinner.

The bands played sets and the crowd piled in. Mainly German but some Scottish and Hungarian and Swiss all here for games in the next few days. The venue was nearing capacity and with an 8.30am tram in the morning, we decided to bail on watching the game at the fanzine and we headed out of the venue just as it reached capacity. I'm glad we made the move when we did.

The game has finished and Germany smashed Scotland 5-1 which is a brilliant start for the cup and for Germany as host nation.

Very pumped for the first game at Cologne stadium tomorrow 🏆
