Riomaggiore - Manarola - Volastra - Corniglia 🇮🇹

Hiking 13.5kms in the Cinque Terre in Italy!

Next level amazing day with some serious hiking 😊. We woke to rain and so caught the train to the larger town near us to do some grocery shopping and as per forecast, the rain stopped and so off we headed for our hike.

This region is very hilly/mountaneous and today we climbed 600 steps up one mountain

, down the other side to Manarola village by the sea where we had our picnic lunch, then started up the next mountain.

The sea route is currently under construction and we had helicopters flying overhead and dropping building materials down to the workers. The alternate route to Volastra weaves along narrow vegetable gardens, lemon groves and vineyards is 1200 steps straight up and then there's the descent down the other side through more vineyards and a forest section.

The views of the ocean breathtaking and quite a lot of hikers out today coming in both directions.

It was challenging at times but truly fabulous. We treated ourselves to a gelati at the end in Manarola. I asked for flavour recommendations and tried their own home made local suggestions - one scoop of tangy and delicious basil and lemon and the other scoop their local honey flavour.

We ducked out to see sunset but the rain was just starting and a bit to cloudy. Some games of cards to finish the evening.

Top notch day 🏆
