Pisa - Riomaggiore 🇮🇹

We arrived to our accommodation just before 1am this morning and so a little slow to start this morning.

We left our bags at the accom and a short walk brought us to the Leaning Tower of Pisa.  It's something I always wanted to see and it delivered!  We had lots of fun copying the range of poses we were seeing.

Then a walk on top of the city walls built in the 1100's, giving great views either side.

A wander through the pretty streets, a slice of pizza and then off to the train station bound for Cinque Terre - another destination I have wanted to visit.

We arrived into Riomaggiore train station,

emerging from the tunnel to see the ocean!  A short walk to our apartment (up many stairs) and then off to explore in the last couple of hours before sunset.  The place was buzzing with hikers finishing walks, people sitting with picnics, or soaking up the sun, eating takeaway pizzas or sipping drinks.  The ocean was very rough today and so no boats sailing.

We walked up the main street and then weaved our way through the steep steps to a high vantage point near the castle ruins.

Fabulous views down to the town and out to sea.  We wandered to the edge of the village and dropped down to the coastal path that hugs the cliff face.  We found a spot to perch for the next hour to watch the sunset 😊

We finished with a pizza.

A wonderful day in the sunshine in beautiful Italy 🇮🇹🎉
