Day 13 Sully-sur-loire to Cosne-Cors-Sur-Loire 72kms

A fabulous day in the French countryside with my lovely German friends Albie and Jutte.  We left the campsite and followed the river through fields of sunflowers and wheat, corn and beetroot.

The route today took us through the town of Briare famous for the incredible Canal bridge built in 1790 and designed by Eiffel.  This bridge crosses the Loire river and so, water over water. Our route took us over (walk our bikes) the 'bridge' to the quaint town where you can take a canal boat ride.

We opted for lunch under the shade of the trees at the Canal Hotel.  Beautiful smoked salmon tagliatelle with a breeze, with great company and views.

Back on the bike to continue our journey alongside a canal, covered in water Lillies and the most beautiful path.

Further along the canal we came across day trippers on canal boats, going through locks and enjoying a summer's day.

Today we saw three nuclear power stations and our route took us directly around and alongside one.

We continued on till we came to our campground, a more rustic but spacious ground.

Set up tent and the three of us gathered the food we had, Albie bought a couple of bottles of the locally produced wine and we cycled to find a picnic bench and shared a lovely evening sharing travel stories and sharing food.. fabulous day.
