Lincoln to Woodhill Spa 🇬🇧 62kms 🚴‍♀️

A cruisy day cycling the Water Rail Way line from Lincoln to the cute village of Woodhall Spa.

This repurposed train line runs between the Witham river and a canal and has many informational signs explaining the uniqueness of the line. People used to access some of the train stations by ferries! The old station houses are now privately owned and most have pretty gardens.

I cycled with a couple of older guys for about 10kms, talking about the area and sharing cycling tales.

The quaint town of Woodhill Spa has an airforce memorial garden, a gorgeous row of shops complete with British flags from recent D-Day memorials and also the “Kinema in the Woods” which is a historic old picture house, called a Kinema (instead of cinema) based on the Greek translation of motion pictures. The first film.shown was a Charlie Chaplain movie and the cinemas have retractable organs which were, and sometimes today are still used to play the live music to accompany the film.

The cycle was pleasant, mostly flat and a nice meandery way to spend a day.

Tonight after a delicious dinner we went for a walk through Bailgate, the old town area near the castle and cathedral which is so full of history and was quiet on a week night. Finished with a visit to the “Smugglers Arms” pub.

A very relaixng day 😊
