A long and fabulous day. I'm writing this at 2.15am and have arrived back to my accommodation 😊
This morning I caught the tram into town and visited the excellent Museum of Fragrance. Aude Cologne was invented in Cologne in 1709 and the fragrance with the original recipe with 20 ingredients is still sold today. It has been purchased by many famous people over the years including royalty etc. princess Diana was a fan 😊. A passionate guide spent an hour passing on so much information. Loved it.
Then a walk through the busy streets to visit two amazing churches. The first has been built around the ruins of the original church and the blended architecture amazing.
The second, St Gereon Basilica is the most important royal church of the late Franciscan empire. Stunning architecture!
Then to the stadium for game 2 in Cologne. Scotland vs Switzerland with a draw 1-1. So much atmosphere with the Scots so passionate and the Swiss a little more dignified but also passionate.
Well, it seems I have secured my position as P5 carpark logistics dealing with the VIP movements in busses and cars. I'm besties with the main carpark team and drivers now and so will most likely fulfill that spot, complete with walkie talkie for the next 3 matches.
I did manage to sneak into the stadium for some atmosphere from the Scots!
I caught the last tram that would make a connection to where I'm staying but unfortunately the tram in front had hit a pedestrian and so our tram stopped and we all had to get off. Myself and two other volunteers who live near each other walked quickly but missed the last connection. The streets filled with fans still and we walked a couple of kms and found a taxi to share.
Definitely ready for bed 😊
