Madrid πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Έ

This morning we sampled the hostels free brekky of churros and cakes πŸ˜‚. Then a quick duck into the shop to get some fruit before joining our free walking tour.

Dina our guide was an enthusiastic and knowledgeable young woman and she took us through the history of early Madrid during the reign of the Habsburg rule.  King Charles III was responsible for a lot of construction and structure to Madrid and Spain in general.

After our tour we had a picnic lunch in the Palace grounds and then spent a couple of hours touring the Palace.  The oppulence and finery including marble, tapestries, stained glass, frescos, exquisite furniture, chandeliers is spectacular.  The palace has over 3700 rooms!

Then to the cathedral which is an odd mix of design styles from early renaissance.  In my view it doesn't work and is quite an odd style inside and out.

Tonight we had booked to go to a Flamenco show which was bright and colourful, with a fabulous dinnerπŸ’ƒπŸ’ƒπŸ’ƒ

Then a wander through the busy streets and plazas late tonight 😊

Kim and I spent quite a bit of time researching for this trip individually and together and so it's fun to start bringing it to fruition.
