Day 17 Digoin to Montceau-Les-Mines 54kms

We had good intentions to head off early but a quick maintenance check revealed issues with Jutta's rear brakes.  Albin spent some time trying to rectify without success.  With no mechanics available in town, we headed off on our ride along the beautiful canals for the 15km.ride to Paray-le-Monial.

Cute little freshwater crayfish crossing the path from the canal!

We went to two different bike mechanics who both diagnosed the same issue but no parts in stock.  We decided to continue our day and ventured into beautiful, pristine Paray-le-Monial.  As soon as we cycled in we loved the town.  Flower boxes on all the bridges and city streets.  The Tourisme office was next to the Basilique du Sacre Coeur which is an immaculate monestry built in 973 and consecrated in 1004.

It was simple in its style with intricate stained glass windows.

The painting on the ceiling still in tact

The view from the rear of the building was just as impressive and they play prayers quietly over the speakers which adds to the atmosphere.

We then wandered through the old town and chose a quick lunch to picnic on the lawns outside the Basilica.

A glance back at the Basilica and I had to take another photo before cycling the most beautiful winding road alongside the canal to our final destination tonight.

A stop at the supermarket and the fresh selection of veges and fruit amazing.  This was the beans selection

No campsite within 25kms and so a night in a hotel - and only a few hotel beds available too!  😊
